What?!? Why?
Because I have issues. One of them is how fixated I get on our outdoor flag hanging correctly.
I originally used the rings that came with the flagpole. After all, they were free, so why not use them? The reason not to use them is that half the time I walked outside the flag was completely wrapped around the pole. I tried WD-40 to see if the rings would swivel more smoothly. If it made a difference, it was slight.
A search on Amazon lead me to a spendy set of flagpole rings. They had 247 reviews with 87% of those being 5 stars. I didn’t buy them.
What?!? Why?
Because they were spendy – ridiculously so.
Instead, I bought a different brand that looked similar but was around a third of the price. They had 1,735 reviews with 82% of those being 5 stars. Seemed like a reasonable substitute.
Not quite.
They somewhat worked. Instead of having to unwrap the flag half the time, it was somewhere between a third to a quarter of the time. Better, but still annoying.
What to do? Because I have issues, I returned the cheap ones and ordered the expensive ones. If they performed as poorly as the cheap ones, my plan was to return them and go back to the knock-offs.
Well?
The expensive ones worked really well for two days, but then it happened. The flag was wrapped around the pole. A single tear ran down my cheek. Boo.
“Okay,” I thought, “I’ll send them back, but before I do I’ll spray the bearings with WD-40.”
The rings have been up for several weeks. We’ve had breezy days and windy days, but no more having to spend time messing with the flag.
Okay, so here is my first and possibly last product endorsement for those with flag issues: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L8Q4SFV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
