When we moved in the windows were covered by polyester sheers. They were serviceable but not something we wanted long-term. We looked at everything from ceiling to floor velvet curtains to wooden interior shutters. Ultimately, we decided to go with relaxed Roman shades. We had some in Atlanta and liked the look as well as the functionality.
Of course, our windows are far from a standard size. The ones on the side are 27.75″ wide x 77″ tall. The middle one is 40″ wide and also 77″ tall. In order to get what we wanted, we had to find a company to custom-make the curtains for us. That turned out to be more difficult than we expected.
Some companies wouldn’t make relaxed Roman shades for windows less than 30 inches wide. Others didn’t offer an off-white that would blend with our trim color. Quite a few must have been weaving their fabric out of solid gold based on the pricing.
We ultimately went with an Etsy vendor based in South Carolina. It took a little over a month to get them and they cost more than we originally budgeted, but we’re happy with the look and quality. I’d like to get a set for our bedroom, so all of the bay windows match, but that is going to have to wait.
