I knew there were some light fixtures in bags stored in the basement. I had glanced at them but felt there were more pressing issues to deal with. After several days of painting (and needing a break from it), I decided to see what was down there and determine if any were worth replacing. I found three that were better than those already in place but not all would be a one-for-one swap. It entailed moving an existing one from one room to another and removing the ones that didn’t make the cut. Ultimately, I think the fixtures’ new locations provide better light, are a better fit for the space, and/or are more attractive.
One warning about old light fixtures: after a nasty spark incident with one of the lights, I decided to rebuild all of the sockets and replace the wiring. My guess is that the heat from the old incandescent bulbs caused the cardboard sleeves within the sockets to become brittle and charred. Some of them were a genuine fire hazard.
