It is a little difficult to tell from those two photos, but the old color was a medium dark taupe. The new color is Big Chill (Sherwin Williams SW 7648). That is the same neutral grey we used in Chelsea’s dressing room and will likely use in the hallways and guest room. (Update: I was half right. We used Big Chill in the guest room and guest bath but not the hallways.)
In addition to the paint job, two of the doors had to be planed so they would close correctly. The first went incredibly well. The second worked perfectly until it didn’t.
I checked the clearance a half dozen times and it closed smoothly with no issues. I opened the door so I could paint two coats on the door frame and two coats on the side of the door where I had shaved off the old paint and wood. After the second coat, I let it all dry for about 8 hours.
As I was getting ready for bed, I went over to close the door. It wouldn’t shut. I opened it wide in hopes of seeing some kind of obstruction, but nothing was there. I attempted to close it again. Nope. It was then I noticed that part of the door edge and the frame were touching. The gap I had created earlier with the planer was so fine that four total coats of paint had thrown it off.
