One of my projects has been converting one of the upstairs bedrooms into a large closet/dressing room for Chelsea. The room was originally green and possibly occupied by the evil twin girls from The Shining. You can judge for yourself:
Chelsea picked out a bluish-grey Sherwin-Williams color called Ice Cube. When I started painting the walls it quickly became apparent that color did not work with the Snowbound trim. That shade of white is on all of the mouldings in the house, but in that room, it has a strong yellow tint. Maybe it is the way the sun hits that room or the fact that the neighbor’s house closest to that room is yellowish, but for whatever reason, the colors clashed.
Chelsea was on a flight when I started painting, so I couldn’t easily get her input. Ultimately, I had to make an executive decision, set aside the paint I’d already purchased, and pick out a new color. Based on a recommendation by one of the Sherwin-Williams, I went with Big Chill (SW 7648) a very neutral grey in the same color grouping as Snowbound (SW 7004). That way no matter how the color shifted, they should shift together.
In addition to painting the walls, I built a base for a cabinet left behind by the previous owner. It isn’t great but at least gives it a little more of a built-in look. The base and cabinet are cut around the actual baseboards, so they can be removed at any point with no trace left behind.
I think Chelsea is going to order some freestanding clothes racks for additional hanging space. She is also looking out for a vanity to place in the room so she can do her makeup each morning.
