In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.

Hobbes’ room was (mostly) finished on April 19. It went from this:
To this:
The walls we painted Hale Blue, a Benjamin Moore color. It is a very inky navy. It goes well with the Star Wars theme since it is reminiscent of a starless night sky. I was happy with how well it covered the original color. It ultimately took two coats (one and a half gallons) to bring out the depth of the bluish-black tint. The trim is Sherwin-Williams’ Snowbound.
When all of our travels began we promised him that he would get a queen-sized bed when we settled down. We thought that he would inherit the one we already had in storage. That changed as we considered the style of the house and how that might impact his room. As you can see, Chelsea decided on a retro metal bed for him.
For now, he is still using the IKEA shelves we brought from our Atlanta house. Over time, we will likely transition him over to more traditional pieces like the two Chelsea picked out in the bottom photo.
I still have to do some fireplace surround repair. The plaster was crumbling, so I stripped it down to the masonry underneath. The plan is to replaster and paint it. The windows need curtains and maybe we’ll add a ceiling fan for comfort.
