The one negative related to our living room decor choices so far is the amount of light we have at night. During the day it is great due to the large windows, but once the sun goes down the room is too dark to have a comfortable conversation with others. We had two floor lamps (and recently added a third), but we wanted more ambient light.
If you have been following the blog you know we have plaster walls that I am generally scared of due to their age and fragility. Because of that, I didn’t want to cut fairly large holes in the wall and try to fish electrical wiring through them. Fortunately, we found a solution.
After weighing all of the options we could think of, we decided to go with rechargeable sconces. They look exactly like wired ones, but have removable LED bulbs with built-in batteries. Power, brightness, and the color temperature of the lighting is managed from a small remote control. Battery life is reasonable – somewhere between 10 to 30 hours (depending on brightness) for 3 to 4 hours of charging.
I doubt these would work if we were going to use them constantly, but as an occasional accent light they are perfect.
