The green velvet chairs ordered last year have been a disappointment all the way around.
What was supposed to be a 5 to 6-month lead time turned into nine. Once they arrived, the color was significantly off from the fabric sample we saw in the showroom. The company we ordered them from went out of business so we couldn’t return them.
Partially due to the color and partially due to the size they don’t feel right in the space, therefore we have decided to get rid of them and go in a different direction. Enter the English-arm chair with turned feet and casters.
We found a pair of them for sale by owner on the Alabama Gulf Coast. The price was good, so I was fully prepared to rent a truck, drive 10 hours, spend the night in a cheap hotel, then drive 10 hours home. However, at the last minute, we found out that the seller doesn’t have the back pillows. The seat is 27 inches deep. Not only would they look less rich without the additional cushion, but users wouldn’t be able to put their feet on the floor, nor even get out of the chairs without scooching forward. That started an effort to see if the manufacturer would sell us replacement pillows.
It turns out that they might, but they said there is no way the fabric is going to match. The chairs we found were custom-ordered two years ago. The normal wear of the fabric along with dye lot changes would leave us with cushions that obviously wouldn’t coordinate.
Ultimately, we decided to bite the bullet and order new chairs from the manufacturer in a tone-on-tone stripe (seen in the photo above) to give the chairs some visual texture.
They should arrive in 6 to 8 weeks. Fingers crossed.
